The Peruvian Government has placed the jungle regions of Loreto and San Martin under yellow alert following a dengue outbreak in the Ucayali region (which is itself under a state of emergency).
Eleven fatalities have now been confirmed in Pucallpa, capital of Ucayali. Health authorities have also confirmed one dengue-related death in Yurimaguas. The river-port town of Yurimaguas is located in the Loreto region, about two-hours from the city of Tarapoto in San Martin.
