In January 2013, Peru will host stages of the Dakar Rally for the second year running, alongside Argentina and Chile. Unlike last year, when the rally ended in Peru, the 2013 event will start in Lima. This will be the first time the Dakar Rally has started in desert terrain.
The first stage of the 15-day rally raid event begins in Lima on January 5. Car, motorbike, quad and truck drivers will face four full stages in Peru before entering Chile:
- Jan 5: Lima to Pisco
- Jan 6: start and finish in Pisco
- Jan 7: Pisco to Nazca
- Jan 8: Nazca to Arequipa
On January 9, competitors begin in Arequipa before crossing the Peru-Chile border to finish in Arica. The course then heads through northern Chile, into Argentina and back into Chile to finish in Santiago on January 19.
You can watch stages of the rally from points all along the route. Two days before the rally begins, organizers will announce the location of 60 secure spectator zones, where you can watch the rally in greater safety.
