Ferrocarril Transandino (FETRANSA), the company charged with administering and maintaining the railways in southern and south-eastern Peru, has today announced the suspension of trains to Machu Picchu due to recent heavy rainfall in the Cusco region.

The railway line has not been damaged, but the Urubamba River has reached a level at which precautionary measures were deemed appropriate. According to El Comercio, FETRANSA hopes rail operators such as PeruRail will resume their scheduled services tomorrow.
